Guests to Lake Cumberland can take a scenic horseback ride, feed the trout at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery or catch a show at the historic Star Theater, a 1950's vintage movie theater with seasonal plays, musical productions, and the annual performance of "The Nutcracker."

For the fishing enthusiast we offer trophy size stripers and hold state records for brown and rainbow trout and walleye. And speaking of walleye, Lake Cumberland hosted the 1995 and 1996 Walleye "Quest" Championship. Walleye fishermen invaded Lake Cumberland in search of that $50,000 walleye.

Russell County hosts festivals and events, drawing thousands of visitors and featuring a variety of displays, tournaments, foods, and more. Lakefest gets things started with a bang Fourth of July weekend! Russell County Fair in late July is considered by many to be the biggest and best county fair in the state. For
bargain hunters, the 450-mile U.S. Hwy. 127 Outdoor Sale goes through the county in August; The Harvest Festival in the Fall; and Lake Cumberland State Park's annual New Years Eve Dinner and Dance closes our year with a flourish.
For those of you who don't like the confinement of four walls and like to rough it, there are many campsites to choose from, or you may camp anywhere along the shoreline.
If you like watching birds, viewing deer, and other wildlife, you may want to take the
bike/walking trail at Kendall Recreation Area. The trail winds past a trout stream, over a 60 - ft. bridge and into The Pines Wildlife Management Area. While there, be sure to visit the Information Center at Wolf Creek Dam and the powerhouse.
